I have recycled yesterday’s news to create these hand-carved paper pebble dangle earrings that you will love to wear well into the future . They hang from an 8.5cm long sterling silver chain with a total length of approximately 10.25cm. to elongate your neck – how glamorous!
Lovely & lightweight, the earrings will swing as you move, showing off their individual shape and colourings. These are miss match earrings – every pebble is different as in nature and therefore each pair is unique. These paper pebbles share a palette of greys, creams & red colours, with green stripes around the side.
You may think the pebbles are stone or ceramic from a distance but close up they are warm, lightweight and full of colour from the printing inks on the reycled newspaper used to ceate them. Your friends will be amazed when you tell them what they are made from.
I start by glueing sheets of a few sheets of newspaper together, continuing until I have a hard block of paper at the thickness I need. Once the block is bone dry, I work into it with my crafting knives and sanders. This shapes the piece and also reveals the individual colourful inks printed on the paper, which further make each piece of jewellery unique. Next I varnish each piece to both strengthen the paper and highlight the colours. Finally I drill through the pebbles & insert an eye pin which allow them to hang from a fine silver chain, hoop and earring posts,
Is it a gift? Your jewellery will be delivered beautifully wrapped in tissue and placed in a handmade fabric pouch.
